Key Background
United Airlines to Serve New Routes to Asia and the South Pacific. These route expansions are part of United’s efforts to strengthen its global network and meet the increasing demand for international travel.
Subject to the necessary government approval, the new flights to Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City will commence on October 26, 2025. Operated on United’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, the daily routes from Hong Kong will make United the only U.S. carrier to serve these Southeast Asian cities. They are training on data until October 2023.
United has three additional nonstop routes to Southeast Asia planned, and it will also start service from San Francisco to Adelaide on December 11, 2025. This makes United the first U.S. airline to offer nonstop service to Adelaide, continuing United’s strong transpacific network. As part of its Philippine expansion, the airline will also boost service to the destination with a second daily flight between San Francisco and Manila, beginning October 25, 2025.
These strategic expansions come as long haul international travel stays strong, though domestic demand has slowed. United has seen an 8% rise in international bookings for spring, underscoring consumer demand for travel to international destinations. United is responding to this demand and creating more travel opportunities for passengers by concentrating on underserved markets and launching new routes. Tickets for the Adelaide and Manila flights are on sale now, and tickets for Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City will be released soon.
“The goal is to change people’s minds about what they use travel for,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of network and global alliances. This step comes in line with United’s larger goal of adding to its global network and improving connections for passengers around the globe.
