Cat Goetze, a tech entrepreneur known online as CatGPT, turned a nostalgic idea into a successful business. Inspired by landline phones, she wanted an easier way to stay connected without relying on her smartphone.
Two years ago, she made a prototype by modifying a thrifted landline phone to work with Bluetooth. The pink clamshell handset quickly became popular with her friends and visitors.
In July 2025, Goetze showed the phone to her online followers. Within hours, hundreds of people showed interest. She thought she would get only a few orders but was surprised when sales reached $120,000 in just three days.
Physical Phones now offers five styles priced between $90 and $110, manufactured in partnership with an electronics company. The devices connect to smartphones and ring for incoming calls, including audio and video calls from platforms like WhatsApp, FaceTime, Instagram, and Snapchat. Users can also make calls by dialing or using their smartphone’s voice assistant.
Goetze says her product is popular because more people want to spend less time on screens and connect in a more meaningful way. She points out that many are noticing how technology can affect focus, anxiety, and social life.
