Background

Nidec Motor Corporation has announced a major expansion of its Mena, Arkansas, facility with an investment of more than $19 million. The expansion will add 35 new jobs over the next five years, strengthening the company’s long-standing presence in the region.

The project adds 61,000 square feet to Nidec’s current 347,000-square-foot facility. The new space will help increase production and include a customer demonstration room for large industrial motors. Construction began in the second quarter of 2025 and is expected to finish by the second quarter of 2027.

“This investment is a major step in our growth as a manufacturer of electric motors,” said Claudemir dos Santos, COO of Nidec ACIM. “The new facility will allow us to improve manufacturing, expand testing, and provide a better experience for our customers.”

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders praised the expansion, highlighting Nidec’s long history in Mena and the state’s supportive business environment. She stated that the company has been rooted in the Mena community for almost six decades and that this new investment reflects strong confidence in the state.

Nidec has operated in Mena since 1966, producing large electric motors mainly for the oil, gas, water, and wastewater industries. The plant currently employs around 400 workers.

Clint O’Neal, executive director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, said the expansion reflects the city’s strong business climate. Mena Mayor Seth Smith added that the project will bring new opportunities and jobs to the local community.

The expansion reinforces Nidec’s commitment to Mena and its role as a key manufacturer of large-scale motors in the United States.
