Background

Arri plans to sell its global rental business in Europe, the UK and North America to H2 Equity Partners through a management buyout. The deal is led by the rental business’s current leadership team, including Dana Harrison, Russell Allen and Tamim Essaji.

Following the transaction, Dana Harrison will become Chief Executive Officer of the independent rental company. The business will continue operating under a new brand after a transition period.

Arri said the sale will remove a conflict of interest between its manufacturing and rental businesses. As a maker of camera and lighting equipment, the company supplies products to customers and rental companies that also compete with its own rental operations.

The company said the move will allow it to focus on developing and selling camera, lighting and software technologies while strengthening its position as an independent technology partner for the media and entertainment industry.

The new rental company will continue working with Arri as its technology partner. H2 Equity Partners said it plans to support the business by investing in growth, expanding into new markets and building on its existing customer relationships.

Arri confirmed that Illumination Dynamics will remain part of the company and is not included in the transaction.

The planned sale is part of Arri’s wider business transformation. The company changed ownership earlier this year when Thomas Riedel acquired Arri. It had also sold its lighting business, Claypaky, as part of its strategy to focus on its core technology business.
