Background-

The International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) presented two business models to Asia Pacific mobility clubs at the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Region II Congress in Boracay, Philippines. The models aim to combine road safety impact with financial sustainability.

The congress ran from September 29 to October 1 and drew 120 delegates from regional FIA Clubs. They discussed road safety, innovation, sustainable and accessible transport, tourism and wider access to motor sport.

iRAP Global Programme and Communications Manager Judy Williams delivered the keynote during a session on new commercial opportunities in mobility. She outlined Road Safety Intelligence as a Service and Community Safety as a Service.

Under both models, clubs can work with public and private partners to find high-risk roads, shape evidence-based investment plans and track and certify safety progress. Williams said the models can bring recurring revenue, stronger member engagement and partnerships in new sectors.

iRAP CEO Greg Smith also joined the session. He said iRAP is a success story of the FIA, since the idea for road assessment programs first came from mobility clubs.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the region is central to the future of mobility and motor sport. FIA Region II President Joe Ferreria said the event helps clubs learn from one another and build the tools they need to grow.

The FIA has expanded its Safe Mobility 4 All and 4 Life programme into Asia Pacific, with 17 projects across 15 countries. iRAP is mentoring clubs in four of those countries. The FIA has 246 Clubs worldwide with more than 80 million members, and iRAP supports 140 of them in 99 countries.
