Background:

Jersey Sport will put £1 million into local sport in 2026, the most it has ever given in one year. Funding has grown steadily, from £300,000 in 2024 to almost £800,000 in 2025, showing strong support for sport on the island.

The funding will help clubs, athletes, and community programs, creating more opportunities for participation, development, and long-term growth across Jersey. At a recent Celebration of Sport, clubs and athletes shared the positive impact of the funding.

For the Skateboard Jersey, the 2025 support has helped the group stay steady during a difficult period. Phil Minty, Chair of Skateboard Jersey, said the funding allowed the charity to employ an Operations Manager and sessional coaches, expanding its presence at local skateparks and supporting more young people.

“We’ve also been able to send talented riders to competitions off-island and upskill local coaches through specialist training. We are ready to provide services to many people on the island and look forward to 2026,” he said.

Local athletes have also seen the benefits of the extra funding. Rory Le Masurier, part of Jersey Sport’s Performance Sport Programme, noted that the support enabled him to compete in international tournaments, attend training camps in Europe, and improve his English ranking. “My coaches’ training and support have really helped me compete at the national level,” he said.

David Kennedy, CEO of Jersey Sport, emphasized the organisation’s commitment to aligning funding with the real needs of local sport. Investing £1 million proves what dedication and effort can accomplish. It gives sports a strong base to grow, and we will keep this progress going,” he said.

The funding also supports wellbeing, community, and healthy lifestyles, helping Jersey become stronger and more resilient.
