Background
Five energy-efficient business units have opened at Beechwood Industrial Estate in Llandeilo, completed through a joint venture between the Welsh Government and Carmarthenshire County Council.
The Welsh Government has invested more than £3 million in the 7,000 sq ft development, built to give local and regional businesses room to grow, following earlier community engagement that flagged a shortage of employment space in the area.
The scheme, designed to reach a net zero carbon in-operation target, forms part of the Welsh Government’s Property Delivery Plan and supports Carmarthenshire County Council’s Ten Towns Initiative.
Korbuild Ltd, a Welsh contractor, built the units with features designed to lower energy costs and cut carbon emissions, among them solar panels, electric vehicle charging points, high insulation levels, sustainable drainage and room to add battery storage down the line.
The project has brought benefits to businesses across the wider region too. Solar Save Renewables Ltd, based less than a mile from the site, installed the solar energy system. Strong interest has already emerged from businesses looking to occupy the units, with one of the larger spaces expected to be taken up soon.
Korbuild Managing Director Mark Cotter said the firm was pleased to work alongside the Welsh Government, Carmarthenshire County Council and Rhomco on the project, adding that the energy-efficient design and use of local suppliers showed how sustainable construction can benefit both businesses and communities.
Carmarthenshire County Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism Cllr Hazel Evans called the units a significant investment in Llandeilo’s future, supporting job creation and stronger local economies.
Solar Save Renewables Managing Director Petar Pavlov said the project gave his team a chance to showcase its expertise and hoped it would open further opportunities for Carmarthenshire businesses.
