Background-

Egypt and AUDA-NEPAD stepped up efforts to draw South African participation in the upcoming Alamein Africa Forum, gathering senior business leaders, diplomats and policymakers at the Egyptian Embassy in Pretoria.

The forum will run in Cairo from June 25 to 27, 2026, alongside the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit, and organizers positioned it as a platform to strengthen African investment partnerships and advance Agenda 2063.

Egyptian Ambassador to South Africa H.E. Ahmad Sharief hosted the engagement and told corporate leaders the forum offers a chance to strengthen ties between South Africa, North Africa and global partners while opening new commercial and investment pathways. He described Alamein as a continental meeting point for investors, policymakers, construction firms and business leaders, and pointed to Egypt’s economic resilience, citing 5 percent growth alongside a 2 percent primary surplus.

AUDA-NEPAD CEO Nardos Bekele-Thomas praised Egypt’s role as a founding NEPAD member and its leadership in infrastructure, industrialization and climate resilience, highlighting the AUDA-NEPAD Centre of Excellence on Climate Change, Resilience and Adaptation in Cairo.

She called Africa one of the world’s leading investment frontiers, noting 41 percent of African economies are projected to grow above 5 percent, and framed the forum as an implementation-focused platform for deal-making backed by Afreximbank and the African Development Bank.
