Background

Airtel Business CEO Sharat Sinha has backed clear AI regulation, saying the right guardrails will unlock strong productivity gains for Indian enterprises.

Sinha welcomed the government’s plan to release a consultation paper on AI rules covering technology safety, content authenticity, and a human-first approach. He called it a step in the right direction and said Airtel will play an active role. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said the paper will form the base of India’s AI framework.

Airtel sits down with policymakers and the companies it serves to shape its work around the law, Sinha said, and he wants a rulebook that lets technology foundations lift business performance. He explained that AI agents, deployed with strong guardrails and a well-built enterprise architecture, deliver productivity gains, and the company already uses them heavily. Global experts back layered controls and closer monitoring, and Sinha expects safe deployment methods to keep improving.

Sinha expects AI adoption to lift demand for reliable digital infrastructure, including cloud, data centers, connectivity, guardrails, and cybersecurity. It sees cloud, cybersecurity, IoT, next-generation connectivity, and communications platform as a service as its growth drivers over three years.

The telecom major has built a network safety solution on the AI behind its spam prevention tool, and its networks have grown much safer for customers since launch. With UPI powering almost half of the world’s digital financial transactions, Sinha said such protection holds great value for India.
